HOW TO GET SIGNED BY A MODELING AGENCY (A SIMPLE 6-STEP MANUAL)November 9, 2022
A Day in The Life of Bali Modeling Agency
Or maybe, you're curious to know what magic happens behind the scenes of a modeling photoshoot?
Wonder no more. Today, you, lucky reader, get to join Bali Model Agency on set, to find out what goes on behind the modeling agency scenes.
8 am - The Day Begins
The day starts off bright and early (this is actually a later start for a shoot). We (Bali Model Agency) are preparing for a photoshoot with English owned scarf brand Shinjuku Lanes.
“Failing to prepare, is preparing to fail…”
Preparation is crucial for a successful shoot. So first thing’s first, a meeting is in order with everyone involved - from photographers, stylists, agency, and of course, most importantly the client.
Meeting the gorgeously ambitious owner Jen on set, she greeted us with a warm welcome and spoke about why she chose to work with Bali Model Agency;“Two reasons - firstly because they have a wonderful range of models on their books, but secondly because they can help to organise everything that is required on a photoshoot. This includes hair and make-up artists, stylists, shooting locations and photographers all under one roof – something crucial for me as I am new to Bali.”
“Tokyo is such an exciting city partly because, despite being the archetype of a hyper-modern city, if you take a closer look nature is everywhere, and the city takes on a new form every time the seasons change...and that really sums up the brand – we make urban designed scarves crafted from natural, sustainably sourced fabrics, carefully selected to keep you warm in winter and cool in summer.“
The Photo and Video Shoot is in Full-Flow
The shoot has started, and BMA model, Baby is doing what she does best in front of the camera. Russian born model Baby is no beginner or stranger to the modeling scene having worked all over the world including, Israel (Tel Aviv), China (Shanghai & Guangzhou), Korea (Seoul), Hong Kong, Thailand (Bangkok).
Asking Jen why she decided to work with Russian born model Baby she states; “...Not only does she fit perfectly with the brand and is the type of person I would want to see wearing our scarves, but she also has such a brilliant body of work behind her and a huge range of different looks she can pull off.
“I also chose two other models from Bali Model Agency for another shoot because they both have totally different looks to each other and to Baby, and I think it’s really important that customers see themselves represented in your brand. What all of these models have in common is a bit of edge to them, they’re all striking but totally unique”
The theme for the shoot today is Clean.Smart.Casual.
Scarfs being the most versatile item in any wardrobe and an absolute fashion staple, Shinjuku Lanes aims to take scarf design to the next level.
Why scarves you may ask?
“Scarves can transform an outfit in the space of 2 seconds and can be worn all year round - for example our summer scarves that can also be worn as sarongs!” “As a sustainable brand, encouraging people to invest in wardrobe items that can be worn again and again is something we will always strive for.”
1pm - Shoot Wrapped
The day goes by and photographer Amy has been working her creative craft and eye for detail, with the stunning BMA models in front of her lens. British-born Amy began her career in photography at the age of 21 working for London based fashion magazines and houses before continuing her adventures in various countries all around the world. “For quite a shy person, work is the one place I feel comfortable and can talk to anyone. It really has broken down my social boundaries.”
When asked what inspired her most about her work nowadays she mentions that her move to Bali, Indonesia is what inspires her most.“In Bali I am exceptionally lucky to be inspired by all my surroundings, the jungle life, the ocean and the surprise elements of industrial surroundings, that remind me of home.”
The shoot wraps up in a total of 4 hours. The models, stylists, hair and makeup artists, photographers, and all involved are thanked for their valued time…
The Rest of the Working Day
Back at the Bali Model Agency office, it's a typical day at the office.
Our team are answering any new photo and video shoot enquiries, to then, finding the right models for the brand requirements, making sure that their measurements are up to date and that we have recent test shoot photos for the models to put forward to the client to review.
It's important to be fair to the models and the client, the model bookers, Tash and Sim will always negotiate the best rates for both sides according to the modeling industry standards.
There’s a lot of model applications that come through on social media, email, and postal! (yes we do get portfolios posted still), which includes Bali based models and internationally based models. The process includes deciding on who is a good fit and being realistic if we can get them booked on modeling jobs.
This is a typical day in the life of Bali Model Agency, no day is the same, each is filled with ambition and drive! The whole team works extremely hard to provide excellence for every client and of course the models.
If you have an upcoming shoot and in need of models and perhaps styling, hair and make-up, shooting locations and coordination of the shoot.
